It will hurt a little as microneedles pierce the skin but will hurt less than a conventional tattoo. The most sensitive area is around the sides and back of the scalp. It will also depend on your pain tolerance levels, everyone is different.
You will walk out with noticeable results after your first session. As you progress through the treatment, your results will look more natural with each session.
Micropigmentation is considered semi-permanent camouflage technique that could last up to five years if well maintained. Pigments may lighten over time depending on skin absorption, exposure to sunlight and skin natural exfoliation. You have the option to have the scalp re-darked to refresh your look if desired.
- Avoid swimming and steam rooms for 28 days after each treatment
- Avoid direct sunlight exposure for 28 days after treatment, use sensitive skin sunscreen or a hat
- Avoid scalp sweat (ie heavy exercise) for five days after each treatment
- Use a rotary head shaver instead of a razor shaver
After each treatment, you’ll experience some tenderness and redness on the treated area. There is a remote but possible risks of ink irritation and/or infection.
If you’re experiencing excessive redness, swelling or signs of infection at any point after the treatment, contact your doctor.
After each treatment, you are advised to follow the aftercare instructions to minimise risk of infection and keep your SMP looking sharp for years to come.
To achieve that buzz-cut look please shave prior to your treatment. We recommend using a rotary head shaver instead of a razor shaver. A razor shaver tends to remove microlayers of the scalp and may cause the pigment to fade over time.
Day 1: After each treatment, you’ll experience some tenderness and redness within the treated area. Avoid touching your scalp and we recommend you to use a clean pillowcase.
Do not submerge your head in water or swim for the next 14 days.
Avoid saunas and/or direct sunlight for at least 28 days after treatment.
Day 2-3: The tenderness and redness should be subsiding by now. We recommend you to apply a smear of tattoo aftercare balm for the next few days. Avoid washing the treated area or allow your scalp to sweat. Use a tissue to gently blot the scalp if needed.
You may experience some itchiness as the treated area is starting to heal. Avoid scratching and instead gently tap the scalp with a clean tissue.
Day 4-6: By now, you should be able wash your scalp with a clean cloth and warm water but avoid using any type of soap or shampoo. Pat dry and apply a smear of tattoo balm.
If you need to shave you may do so however avoid shaving if your scalp if still irritated or you are experiencing healing scabs. We recommend you to use a rotary head shaver instead of a razor shaver. See Video here
Day 7- 13: You can now resume exercising and gently washing your scalp with a natural gentle shampoo.
Day 14 – day 28: As the pigments begins to heal, you could experience some fading of the pigment. This is to be expected as each person’s skin absorbs pigment differently. The colour depth will be adjusted with each follow up treatment based on healing results.
To take care of your new SMP, avoid submerging your head under water or exposure to direct sunlight to avoid fading of the pigment.
If you are experiencing excessive redness, swelling or signs of infection at any point after the treatment, please contact your doctor.
